Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, at least in the eyes of America, into the category of child prodigy. But for a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen was born in this cosy haven, August 17, 1920. Her family was her parents and family members. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was the mother of her. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a star athlete and was a lover of rough play. In addition to this her talent, she also had a knack for acting. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis prizes for her own country's theater and drama is a testimony to the fact that she was a natural performer. By age 14 she was accepted to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater as well as operatic vocals.
